Information for Agents
Cambridge Bumps uses agents to buy and sell maternity clothes across Cambridgeshire. If you have an interest in working with pregnant women, an eye for what clothing suits people and if you would like to work from home on a part-time basis, then you could become an agent.
To be an agent, you should:
- Have a spare room or somewhere that you can use for customers to try on clothes undisturbed
- Have a full-length mirror available
- Be available for at least 2 3-hour sessions per week. These can vary from week to week. If you can, it’s useful to offer one daytime & one evening slot although this can vary depending on your area. We’ll ask you to notify us of your availability each week by Friday for the week after next (e.g. on the 7th of March, we’d like to know your availability for the week commencing 18th March). If you need to change the times you’ll be available, you can let us know.
- Have access to a computer so that you can process payments via credit and debit cards. (We will provide training on the system that we use).
- Have an interest in clothing and be able to make suggestions about complementary items
Even if you can’t meet one or more of these requirements, get in touch and we can see what we can to do to work with you.
When a potential buyer of maternity clothes contacts us, we’ll put them in touch with their local agent and they can book an appointment to try on maternity clothes in the agent’s home.
Sellers of maternity clothes can also drop them off to you and we would ask you then to check off the clothes against their list and issue a receipt to them.. All paperwork will be provided by us, as will advertising information which you may wish to place in your local area. You may advertise in any way you like and you may wish to have appointments for two or more women together or even to host maternity clothes parties. (We can advise more on this – you can make a small charge to women attending and can provide refreshments). We can also supply you with flyers & posters to advertise locally.
You can decide whether you would prefer to be employed by Cambridge Bumps, or contract to us as a self-employed worker, in which case you would be responsible for declaring your income to HMRC for tax purposes. Being self-employed means that you get more say over how & when you work. You can make your own appointments as well as us making them for you. We will pay you monthly on receipt of a completed hours & expense claim form and provided that we have received completed paperwork for all sales/collections for the relevant period.
